Plagium

Kidnapping; slave-stealing. A crime punishable by Roman law with a fine and infamia. The offence was a common one, but was severely dealt with by Augustus (Suet. Aug. 32). See Rein, Das Criminalrecht der Römer, p. 386, and the article Servus.
